Robert Altman

Robert Altman is an American film director who definitely fits the label of Auteur because his films have a distinct voice. Some people do not like his films because they are too crazy and disrespectful. However, other people like them for those same reasons.

One of his most famous films is about a medical unit in the Korean War, "MASH." His voice shows an alternative to the usual way movies were made about war. The crazy behavior of the two doctors does not show the serious side of war. Their silly behavior and sexist dialogue seem almost disrespectful of the serious subject, but that is what Altman is known for.

In "Cookie's Fortune," another serious subject is shown in a funny but disrespectful way. The plot of the story is about the death of the family member, and you might expect the family to be sad and serious. Instead, they are moving the dead body, trying to destroy the will, trying to steal the dead woman's money, and trying to blame it all on the handy-man. He seems to be the only normal person in the story.

While Robert Altman is famous, these are not my favorite movies. The characters are too crazy for me.
