Diverse Position of Science Fiction

    Another story by Octavia Butler is "Dawn," and it is a good example of a majoritarian culture. Nuclear war has polluted the earth so humans cannot live there anymore. They are saved by aliens called Oankali. They are strange looking with tentacles. So the aliens believe that the humans will destroy themselves again without help from the aliens. The main character is Lilith, and she wakes up 250 years after the nuclear war she is freaked out by the aliens. She makes friends with one of them and finds out they are going to change human genetics by breeding with them. The aliens think it is a good thing and will help the human race, but the humans do not have any choice. Just because one group of people called themselves the majority and think they know best, it doesn't give them the right to make decisions for everyone.
