Literary Speculation Outside of Class Reading

     In this weeks story "Oryx and Crake," it seems like a normal example of science fiction with a setting after some horrible world event. This story is a good example of  Speculative Fiction because the author has used characteristics of regular fiction and combine it with sci-fi characteristics. For example, there is a love triangle between Jimmy, Crake, and Oryx. Also, there is a strong protagonist - Jimmy and a strong antagonist - Crake. The strong sci-fi elements are the genetic experiments, the creation of the Crakers and the attempt to whip out most of the humans. I think the love triangle helps to make the sci-fi parts not so boring. The story is sad and tragic, but that is can be true in regular fiction and sci-fi.
